    Hi Dorothy,

There are a couple of configuration settings that control how inventory works in R.O. Writer, and Line Codes on parts can often times cause confusion.  I’ve run into issues before, but never been able to not resolve them.  If you are ordering parts on line and transferring parts to your repair order from your on line suppliers then the line codes must match the line codes you have set up in inventory in order for the parts to get pulled correctly.  Not knowing if you are using the AP module, processing cores and credits, etc… is also another area that needs to be considered, as well as your Work In Progress.  If you are posting parts directly to Work In Progress and by-passing inventory, then the value of your inventory in your accounting isoftware will be greater than your inventory in R.O. Writer by the amount of your non-stock parts in WIP.  Be happy to help you if I can- just reply to this post.

The question is what system are you currently using. We have converted data off of over 50 dofferent shop management systems over the years. However there are some software suppliers that encrypt the data and make it impossible to move your history to a new system. Can’t speak for any of the software suppliers out there but R.O. Writer had a very solid record for doing full data conversions off of legacy systems.

Hi Joe- I’ve implemented bar coded vin scanning with a number of my clients. (I sell and install R.O. Writer Software.)

The good news is that the technology is now very affordable and the scanners are sufficiently flexible that you can use them for more than scanning vins. Adding parts to work orders and doing a physical inventory of your stock room is also possible. Contact me if you would like to know more.

    Kind Regards-Rick Baker

R.O. Writer software has the flexibility to do job-based repair orders so you can just see a total for each job and not the individual parts and labor prices. Be sure to check the rules and regs for your states- some states require that the price be listed for each indicidual part.

I have 50 customers that have signed up with them and ALL of them are happy with DemandForce to date. Some of them “over-the-moon” happy with the results that they have been able to produce. Would highly recommend them to any shop that is looking to increase their car count.
