You bring up a lot of good points, and pricing is always a concern. You have to start by knowing what your win number is, all areas and customer base are different. If you don’t know what your expenses are overall you won’t know what to charge at the door. All this most of you know and we all have to pick our battles, but we really need to raise the proffesionalism of our business. We need to raise the awareness that our technicians are professionals and they need to paid like it. We as owners spend a lot of money on training and equipment to stay up to date and competing with the dealers. Until we do a better job of promoting our profession and explaining to the consumer that we deserve to be paid a fair wage as other trades we will continue to be paid less than what we’re worth. Another side to this story is how are going to attract young people or others that would be interested in our trade if we can’t provide a fair wage. So getting back to pricing we need to remember it’s not just about price, it’s really about earning a fair wage and profit to address concerns from the topics above. As a industry we need to up our game and educate the consumer about our trade and start looking at ourselves as the true proffesionals we are.

I agree with Tom, the last thing we need is big brother in our business anymore than they are now. All I have to think of is USPS, Amtrak and of course Obamascare. With the social media and internet these day’s it is easier than ever for the consumer to find qualified shops and ones that delver quality work with sufficient warranty’s.

We have been using Auto Boss by Palmer products since 1994, has some really good modules. Go to the internet and do the demo.

    Good luck

    Jennifer,

Did that a while ago, someone suggested that in a seminar I was at. Also keep in mind with the new I phone 4S , that if the customer uses the Siri voice activated assistant will skip Google entirely so it is very important to increase your SEO results on major search engines.
